"From my years as a figurative painter, I was imbued with the need to pin things down, to be clear in my descriptions. I have let go of that need. I want to let the image exist in  consort with the viewer, to be a bridge for them to see in a new way."
Moving away from the rigid and formal abstraction of his earlier paintings, Martin Mugar now strives to engage the viewer in a search towards meaning. His large-scale oil paintings shatter existing planes with explosions of perfect rings within fluid wash creating a tone of riotous celebration. |
