Paintings by Hunter O'Reilly
"This artwork is dedicated to all scientists who persevere despite numerous failed experiments in pursuit of scientific truth."
Though she has focused for most of her life on a scientific career, Hunter O'Reilly could not ignore her artistic inclinations after a trip to Paris three years ago. While there, the work of Picasso, Miró and Kandinsky inspired O'Reilly to go beyond the doodles of her childhood and experiment with oil and canvas, impasto and abstraction.
DNA and protein stains are the common basis not only of life, but of O'Reilly's imagery. Painting in a style she terms "Hunterism," O'Reilly creates abstract and figurative art defined by a single line that simultaneously determines the form of more than one person or object.
