"I am working to build an iconography, including both abstraction and imagery, which translates into ideas about seduction, beautification and girlish dreams."
With patterns and detail, Lopez attempts to capture her audience in a state of unself-consciousness, a state of pleasant contemplation. The aim is for the viewer to be engaged enough to continue the search. The longer one remains in this search, the more likely one is to experience the same unself-consciousness the artist experiences while painting.
The accumulation in the paintings is not about filling the space, but about elevating the everyday to the special, about the experiences of making and the need to make, as well as the experience of losing oneself in the complexity.
